Friday, June 2, 1972

SAN FRANCISCO - Roberto Clemente drove in the first 2 Pirate runs. Rennie Stennett drove in the last two. However, 4 runs was not enough to offset HR's by Bobby Bonds, Dave Kingman and Ed Goodson. Bob Miller's error, one of two Buc errors led to an unearned run. The final, Giants 7, Pirates 4.

Overall, Clemente was 1-4 and is now 70 hits away from 3,000.
Clemente scored the game's 1st run in the 1st when his ground out scored Dave Cash. In the 2nd, Roberto tripled in Manny Sanguillen for his 19th RBI. Rennie Stennett drove in Jose Pagan and Gene Alley with a pinch hit triple. Stennett now has 14 RBI's.

Winner Juan Marichal (2-8) pitched a complete game. Bob Johnson (0-3) took the loss. The Bucs are still in 2nd place, 5 GB the Mets, who lost to the Braves, 6-1.

Saturday, Steve Blass (5-1) faces Sam McDowell (6-2).
